Anglican women call for release of Chibok girls

The Mothers’ Union/Women’s Guild of the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Abuja, has joined millions of persons around the world to appeal for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
The Vice President of the union, Mrs Josephine Adekola, made the appeal in Abuja on Saturday while fielding questions from newsmen at the 2014 Archdeaconry Women’s Conference.
She said that though efforts by security agencies to rescue the girls should be supported by citizens,
Nigerians must not forget to pray for the speedy resolution of the insurgency.
“I know that a lot is being done to tackle this issue of Boko Haram and other criminal activities going on in parts of the country but we must not relent in our prayers.

“Even as we join other people around the world to beg for the release of the schoolgirls, we must continue to pray at all times because only prayers can truly end the problems confronting us,” she said.
Adekola urged parents, especially mothers, to devote more time to the development of their children so as to reduce the probability of their involvement in unusual activities.
She said mothers had the responsibility of moulding their children in the ways that please God and in ways that would benefit the society.
She said emerging societal challenges required women to be more committed and devoted to their parental responsibilities so as to maintain harmony in the society.
Adekola said that 11 women from parishes under the deaconry were selected to benefit from the union’s empowerment scheme.
She said that the women would benefit financially and in other ways of enhancing their businesses.
Adekola said that the union was planning to train women on ways of enhancing their businesses in 2015.
Earlier, the ‘mother of the conference,’ Mrs Bola Onigbogi, said women must not abandon their responsibilities in the family and community in pursuit of irrelevant things.
Onigbogi said that society could be thrown into more troubles if women failed to be alive to their responsibilities.
Women from various parishes under the archdeaconry are attending four-day conference the conference ending on July 13.
The theme is: Service unto God: the acceptable service.
