Brazil 1-7 Germany: Julio Cesar and David Luiz wear sober faces

Brazil players Júlio César and David Luiz could not hide their anguish after the 7-1 defeat to Germany.

The tournament hosts came into the game on the back foot after Neymar was ruled out of the final week of the World Cup, but no one was prepared for the massacre that took place in Belo Horizonte.

Joachim Low’s side scored five times in a staggeringly one-sided first half, leaving Brazil punch drunk and putting an end to their hopes of a sixth title.

"It's hard to explain what happened,” said Júlio César after the match.

"Everything was so beautiful until now. We thank the fans for being so amazing.

"Germany were so strong. We have to recognise how well they played."
