Boko Haram Attacks Village In Chad

Boko Haram fighters attacked a village in Chad on Friday, the first known lethal attack in that country by the militant group, which killed several people including a local chief according to residents and security forces.

Dozens of militants arrived by motorised canoe at the fishing village on the shores of Lake Chad early in the morning, setting houses ablaze and attacking a police station.

“They came on board three pirogues and succeeded in killing about ten people before being pushed back by the army,” said a resident of the village of Ngouboua, about 20 km (12 miles) east of the Nigerian border.

General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, born November 8, 1938, was assassinated in Lagos in February 13th 1976. He was just 38 years old and had only been head of State for less than seven months.

According to a report on Premium Times, the newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Joseph Mbu has threatened to take the lives of 20 people if any of his men are killed unjustly during the elections. AIG Mbu made the threat at a meeting with the Ogun State Command at its Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta.

Female Police Officer Disarms 2 Armed Robbers In Lagos (photo)

Sergeant Mercy John, a female police officer serving at the Provost Office of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, on Tuesday displayed an uncommon courage, when she disarmed two suspected armed robbers in Egbeda area of the state.

At least 7 people have been confirmed dead after a female suicide bomber blew herself up in a crowded market in Biu, the largest town in Southern Borno state this afternoon. Former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared his support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

Obasanjo, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made his perspective known during an interview with Financial Times at the launch of his autobiography, My Watch, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya according to Punch.

US To Withdraw Ebola Fighters

The Pentagon in the US are preparing the US military to withdraw all but 100 of the 2,800 troops it currently has deployed to West Africa in response to the Ebola epidemic, Aljazeera reports.

In a statement on Tuesday, spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said “nearly all will return by April 30″.

US officials said Washington was ready to scale back its five-month mission in Liberia and Senegal in the coming weeks, as officials believed the crisis had largely been contained.

A gang in the Ketu area of Lagos State has tortured to death a 68-year-old man, Nasirudeen Ajawesola, for allegedly hitting a resident of the area with a fetish ring.

A TransAsia airways plane carrying 58 people crashed into a river yesterday morning just three minutes after it took off in Taipei, Taiwan, and 15 people miraculously survived the crash, including a 2 year old boy. The 15 were pulled from the wreckage of the plane by rescuers, 43 others are either dead or missing. Sad. The little boy who was rescued wasn’t even seriously injured.

A seasoned lawyer and human rights activist based in Warri, Barrister Robinson Ariyo, was recently shot twice by suspected armed robbers but his skin refused to yield to the gun pellets.

According to a reliable corespondent, who sent in the report, the incident happened early this morning at Gudu roundabout in Abuja. He said policemen in their van were chasing a Keke driver and during the chase, the Keke tumbled and caught fire. The only passenger in the Keke managed to escape unhurt but the driver wasn't so lucky. Bonario said seeing the Keke and driver on fire, the police quickly left the scene, leaving the man to burn to death. He said this enraged other Keke drivers and some people who witnessed the incident and they began to protest. He said it took the intervention of military men to disperse the protesters.
