Boko Haram insurgents have abducted over 400 women and children from Damasak town in Borno State.
Damasak is said to have been freed by by troops from Niger and Chad earlier this month.
Reuters reports that residents of the town confirmed the abduction.

The exact number of people abducted is yet to be confirmed, however; numerous sources say is it is over 400.
A trader named Souleymane Ali told reporters that “they took 506 young women and children (in Damasak). They killed about 50 of them before leaving, We don’t know if they killed others after leaving, but they took the rest with them.”
Ali also revealed that his wife and three of his daughters were among those seized.

“Two of them were supposed to get married this year. (Boko Haram) said ‘They are slaves so we’re taking them because they belong to us’,” he said.
Another trader, Mohamed Ousmane, said the militants took three of his children and his two wives.
Fana, another resident, said the terrorists rounded up captives and took them to the main mosque for taking them out of town, She was able to save her two children from being abducted by hiding them in her house.
