After a protracted holiday resulting from the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, ended Wednesday as public and private Schools in Ogun State resumed classes for the new academic session.
PREMIUM TIMES correspondent who went round some of the schools in the state observed that most schools had equipment to detect high fever which is one of the symptoms of the Ebola virus. Students were also made to go through strict hand hygiene.
For example at Montessori Nursery and Primary School, located in Idi-Aba area of Abeokuta, the Teachers were seen mounting the entrance, and applying the medical facilities for use on the pupils. The teachers also ensure that, each pupil is tested with the Infrared Thermometer before been allowed entry.
Also at Abeokuta Grammar School, students were seen in long queue, as their teachers stayed at the gate to ensure all of the students passed through a temperature check and practiced hand hygiene.
Some parents who spoke with our correspondent, expressed satisfaction on the steps so far taken by both government and private schools owners, towards ensuring the safety of the children, following the fear of Ebola.
Many of the students interviewed by PREMIUM TIMES also admitted to being excitement at returning to school since they had been on a forced holiday over the Ebola outbreak. The students also expressed appreciation for the necessary steps taken by both government and proprietors of schools, in ensuring their safety.
