CROSS RIVERS STATE GOVERNORS BROTHER ARRESTED OVER CONTRACT SCAM




A brother to the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Professor 'BEN AYADE' has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, nigerianewspaper.com.ng, gathered on Wednesday that the the relation, Dr. Francis Ayade was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an alleged N2.4billion contract scam.

Ayade who is the Managing Director of Leophina Nigeria Limited and Hally Brown International Limited, was involved in shady deals involving diversion of public funds into his companies accounts.

'I could not speak to a Minister of Petroleum for 3 years l governor' - Akpabio



Former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio said he could not speak with a certain Minister of Petroleum resources for three years even as a governor of an oil producing state. Akpabio said this during the screening of the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Ibe Kachiukwu who is a ministerial nominee, asking him if he will make himself accessible to those who need to see or speak with him.

Nigerian restaurant closed down for ‘serving human flesh’


A Nigerian restaurant has reportedly been shut down after being accused of serving human flesh following the discovery of bags containing human heads in the kitchen.
A report on the BBC’s Swahili service said police were alerted by local people who suspected something horrific was going on at the restaurant in the south-eastern province of Anambra.

Breaking News | More women and children freed from Sambisa Forest




About 25 men and women have reportedly been rescued Sambisa forest. According to Al Jazeerah, Nigerian Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman said today that the women and children were freed during a military operation in the forest this morning May 6th. One soldier was reportedly killed while five others sustained injuries.

33-yr-old Truck Driver Murdered Friend Over Food




LAGOS—A 33-year-old trailer driver, who reportedly stabbed his friend to death on Monday night at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State, has confessed that his action was a mistake he regretted.

It was learned that the suspect, identified as Tunde Azeez, allegedly stabbed Lukmon Ayedun with a broken bottle at 8:42pm during a brawl.

Vanguard learned that trouble started when the suspect purportedly bought food from a vendor, woke his friend from sleep to eat.

His actions provoked Lukmon, who reacted by hitting Azeez and a fight ensued.

Jonathan marks five years in office with prayer

Multichoice Declares | Nigeria Has No Power To Regulate DSTV Prices


South African digital satellite television company, Multichoice, has defended its decision to increase DSTV subscription rates in Nigeria, saying neither the country nor its courts, has the powers to regulate its prices.

The ruling on the objecti​on by Multichoice Nigeria Limited against an application seeking to stop ​the price increase ​has been scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Federal High Court, Lagos.

Two Lagos-based lawyers, Oluyinka Oyeniji and Osasuyi Adebayo, had initiated a class action on behalf of millions of Nigerians who criticised the new subscription rates as exploitative and insensitive.

Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala Says | "Working for FG Made Me Hypertensive".




The minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has lamented that the search for funds for Nigeria is taking its toll on her and other government workers.

She said over 70 per cent of the workers in the Federal Ministry of Finance, including top officials, have high blood pressure as a result of excessive stress at work.

​ Okonjo-Iweala, and the Permanent Secretary, Anastasia Daniel-Nwaobia, who spoke in Abuja at the commissioning of the Federal Ministry of Finance Welfare Facilities, including crèche and clinic, on Monday said many of the workers in the Finance Ministry were affected.

Killer Nurse Arrested While Fleeing USA


I just can't help but wonder how heartless some humanbeings can be.
Cold-hearted Oluyemisi Adebayo,Queens nurse was nabbed Wednesday as she was about to board a plane out of the country and leave behind her horrific crime — the killing of a 22-month-old girl from a bath so scalding-hot the child’s skin peeled off, police said.

It was the second day that Oluyemisi Adebayo, 54, was caring for Naomi Mondesire at the child’s home on Memphis Ave. near 145th Ave. in Rosedale. The premature toddler was born at just 25 weeks and needed a tracheotomy tube to breathe. Naomi spent her first year in the hospital, her grandmother said, and still needed to be fed through a tube.

N25bn fraud | Lucky Igbinedion’s brother to pay N3m as bail


A Federal High Court in Edo State on Thursday slammed  a younger brother of ex-Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Michael,   to a six-year jail term for N25bn money laundering offences.
An aide of the ex-governor,   Patrick Eboigbodin, was also jailed for 20 years for the   same of offences.
However, the governor’s brother has an option of paying N3m or N1m for each of the three counts on which he was found guilty to avoid going to jail.
Eboigbodin sentencing on Thursday is without an option of fine.

Jonathan Demands 2trillion naira Refund for Election Expenses..


Following the defeat suffered by President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, during the March 28 and April 11 elections, the President has asked the party and government officials who handled campaign funds to refund monies not spent, or those not judiciously expended, SUNDAY PUNCH can authoritatively report.
Jonathan, credible sources said, has also set up a committee of five to get those with the funds to return them.

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State (names withheld) allegedly abandoned his agbada and jumped a fence, while evading arrest over electoral offences.

Kano State Police Command has declared him and four others wanted for electoral offences during the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Fresh protests in Brazil as hundreds of thousands seek president's impeachment




Nationwide demonstrations calling for the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff swept Brazil for the second day in less than a month, though turnout at Sunday's protests appeared down, prompting questions about the future of the movement.

A poll published over the weekend suggested the majority of Brazilians support opening impeachment proceedings against Rousseff, whose second term in office has been buffeted by a corruption scandal at Brazil's largest company, oil giant Petrobras, as well as a stalled economy, a sliding currency and political infighting. Only 13 percent of survey respondents evaluated Rousseff's administration positively.
