As the ban on public smoking yesterday became effective, Lagos State Police Command weekend said it had put everything in place to enforce ban on public smoking in the state.

To ensure effective enforcement, the command in collaboration with British America Tobacco, BAT, organised a one-day sensitisation programme for senior police officers across the state, aimed at helping officers to understand how to enforce the new law.

Delivering a paper on Understanding the Lagos State Regulation of Smoking Law, at the event held at the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Ikeja, a legal practitioner, Mr. Obafemi Agaba, emphasised the key provisions of the law and penalties for offenders.

He said: “Smokers have the right to smoke, just as non-smokers have a right not to be impacted by the smoke from the cigarettes in their personal space. [Vanguard]
