About 28 Nigeria Children Killed By Lead Poisoning


About 28 children have been confirmed dead in the outbreak of lead poisoning from what the government calls "illegal mining activities" in central Nigeria's Niger state.

"The lead poisoning was confirmed and it is confirmed that most of the people affected are children below the age of five," Minister of State for Health, Fidelis Nwankwo, said at a news briefing.

Mountain Climber dies at 17,000 feet


The body of a 39-year-old solo climber was discovered at the 17,200-foot high camp of Mount McKinley in Alaska's Denali National Park.
Geraldo Javier Callupan of General Roca, Argentina, appears to have died of unknown medical issues,according to the National Park Service, which reported his death Thursday. He was found lying in the snow in the middle of the camp plateau with no visible signs of trauma.

Civil Defence Officers Opens Fire At 20 Keke Riders In Imo State

About 20 Tricycle (better known as ‘Keke Napep’) operators were allegedly shot by the officials of theNigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Imo State on Friday, May 8.


Report says the ‘Keke’ riders were protesting the seizure of their tricycles by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), which was impounded at the premises of the NSCDC when the corps officials opened fire on them, injuring many.
One of the victims, Chibuzo Peters, who was hit by a stray bullet told Saturday Punch that his colleagues, after an amicable resolution of the matter by the FRSC officials, were leaving the NSCDC premises when the officers started shooting sporadically.

Nigeria Federal Civil Servants To Undergo Compulsory Certificates Screening


All civil servants on the Nigerian federal government payroll are to undergo compulsory verification and revalidation of their credentials and service records.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, directed officials handling the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System to undertake the exercise.
The exercise, Mr. Kifasi said in a circular issued by the Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) in his office, Amina Shamaki, that screening should cover the verification and revalidation of vital documents belonging to all workers in the core Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Pastor Arrested With Drugs At Enugu Airport



A pastor with the Gospel Faith International Mission, Lagos, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for smuggling 1.978 kilogrammes of heroin concealed in a false bottom of his luggage. Daniel Akintola, 43, was caught at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on an inward flight from Entebbe, Uganda.

In a statement Wednesday, the NDLEA said Mr. Akintola, who claimed to be returning from a Pastors’ Conference in Uganda, wanted to abandon his luggage at the arrival hall for fear of arrest.
